Top 5 Unique Sports Team Situations (Blog 3 with Unique Club Situations and Unique Volunteer Situations To Follow)

There are many situations with sports that, let's face it, have been bad. The basketball in particular was full of egos and trying to make everyone happy. That wasn't fun and neither was the last softball experience. Moving on from that, here are the top 5 unique sports team situations that I think were solid and that had some unique characters and unique ways of doing things:
5. Meridian S.O. Basketball 2012- 9 guys all scoring baskets during the season, great defense, close games, great coaching, won all the State Games (gold medal) after clunking in Area- this was a great team. The various cues helped as did all the enigmatic pieces playing together well and winning Meridian's last gold medal in Basketball. Great teams don't get much more unique than that.
4. Boise Community Unified 2004 Softball- a team that changed personnel for the gold medal game due to multiple injuries and still won 10-0 because of amazing defense and great pitching. A team that had some idiosyncratic ideals and still lost just once in those games. And a team that had great pitching, timely defense, great batting, and pretty good position players despite all of the idiosyncratic and challenging personalities on the team. And that was the last year playing softball where I didn't have a broken finger........
3. Lowell Scott Middle School C Team Mr. Wilson 1997- The team where I made my first field goal in my basketball history, shot my first 3-pointer (a miss sadly, my first make from 3 would be the next year), got my first double-digit rebound season, and somehow the team, while there were some hotheads, were able to gel together long enough to make it to the top 2 in the InterValley League at 11-2. We even nearly won at Nampa South losing by 1 away from wrecking their undefeated season. I might've been only 14 and my 18-year basketball career was in its infancy, but I have never seen all the different players from different ways of life and different ideas of what to do end up doing so well on one team for the overall stamina of a season.
2. Mossman Law Unified Basketball  Team 2005- A collection of tall players and outside shooters and with me they got a 2-in-1 with a tall guy who mostly shot (well) outside. The individuality of the team was varied as there were great players on both the unified partners and also once in a while unified talents. While the team was great against everyone but the Prep Program and the James Company, they won all 6 of the other games good enough for 2nd in the league and had some wonderful memories. I think it was fitting that was my only Unified Basketball season as I don't think any could top it.
And the number 1 most unique sports situation.........
1. Boise Community Special Olympics 2016 Swim Team: Like the Golden State Warriors of the last two years, this was a dominant team in terms of winning (everyone won a medal, most won gold, a few won multiple golds, and a few more won 3 golds) and in terms of practices, it was super unique. We had fun and while we practiced skills we had fun doing so. I can't say that doing a horse noodle race or a kickboard race or a beach ball race were necessarily on my bucket list, but they were fun. And we did pretty well in area and state and the start of practices where we gave the coach a high-five and really enjoyed the warmups made the team. A ragtag group of people who enjoyed life and there were almost no problems on the team that year- simply a dream team of people and I hope all are back next year.
So there you have it: stay tuned for the top 5 unique club situations and the top 5 unique volunteer situations. Coming up after that is the Ian and his Mom top 10 moments and the Hot Bott 100. Can't wait to continue to share unique experiences and wonderful ideas the next year and beyond! I'm Bottatious!
